Vibrations Seen in Water

Of all places, the unique photographs created by Masaru Emoto were shown to me first in the Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square. Since we couldn’t see our vibrations of sound, our vocal director wanted us to see the result of vibrations in water crystals. If you want some fun, view the images of Emoto’s water crystals online or from his book “The Hidden Messages in Water.”

Originally a researcher of earthquakes, Dr. Emoto had a crazy idea: he froze water from various locations in Petri dishes and then took a photo of the crystal that formed at the peak before it melted. To his astonishment, he discovered that water from pristine sources, like a clear spring or a glacier area, had beautiful, well-formed crystals. In contrast, water from dirty areas or from city systems contaminated with chlorine as well as lead piping, hormones, and junk that shouldn’t be in water did not form crystals at all!  Hm.

That gave him and his research assistant a wild idea: to look at other ways water is influenced besides location. They decided that water must respond to sounds, and so they placed vials of water between two speakers. One vial got to “listen” to Beethoven’s 5th, another vial “heard” the Beatles’ “Yesterday”, another was exposed to heavy metal, and another to a Korean folk song. The resulting frozen crystal from each vial echoed the music to which it had been exposed. Lovely music with structure, whether classical or folk or rock, had beautiful, well-formed crystals. Heavy metal music, just like the contaminated water, did not even form crystals and looked muddy and horrible.

Almost ¾ of our bodies is water! What we listen to, what we think, what we eat, and what we feel sends vibrations through that water-in-our-body, and it does make a difference!
